Wright, Richard R. (Richard Robert), 1878-
Bishop Richard Robert Wright, the 57th bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, was born on April 16, 1878 in Cuthbert, Georgia. He received degrees and/or studied at the following institutions: Georgia State University, A.B., 1898; University of Chicago, B.D., 1901 and A.M., 1904; University of Berlin, Germany, 1903; University of Leipzig, 1904 and University of Pennsylvania, Ph.D., 1911. He served as editor of the Christian Recorder, business manager of the A.M.E. Book Concern, president of Wilberforce University and from 1936-1940 bishop of South Africa.
