Association of Universalist Women
The national organization of Universalist church women and one of the earliest national women's organizations in the United States, known variously as: Woman's Centenary Aid Association (1869-1871), Woman's Centenary Association (1871-1905), Women's National Missionary Association (1905-1939), and Association of Universalist Women (1939-1963). In 1963 it consolidated with the Alliance of Unitarian Women to form the Unitarian Universalist Women's Federation. Its headquarters were in Boston, Mass. Activities included fundraising; worship; social action; and philanthropic, educational, and missionary work in the United States--particularly in North Carolina (1911-1951) and Massachusetts (1921- )--in Scotland (1872-1894), and in Japan (1905-1949).
