Burt, James Montross, 1917-2006.

Originally from South Lee, MA, James Burt graduated from Norwich University with the class of 1939. He was a member of Theta Chi, Epsilon Tau Sigma and the Glee Club. Burt played football and was on the track team. He also served on the staffs of the Guidon and War Whoop. James Burt served in the 2nd Armored Division in World War II (3rd Battalion, 66th Regiment). He took part in the North Africa (D-Day Invasion), Sicily (D-Day Invasion), Normandy (D-Day Invasion), Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He also served in the Army of Occupation in Berlin. Burt was awarded the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism under fire near Wurselen, Germany (Battle for Aachen), on 13 October 1944 (date of award was 7 August 1945). James Burt was an active member of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. He received a master of education degree in 1969 from Keene State College. He married first Frances Harmon (d. 1975) in 1942 and the couple had four children. He married Edythe Kelly in 1976.
