Shannon, Kevin
Kevin Joseph Shannon was born on Miners Union Day June 13, 1924. His father John Shannon was an Immigrant from County Clare Ireland. John became the road master for the Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway Company. His mother was Honore Walsh Shannon of Anaconda Montana. Kevin was one of five children; he attended the St. Mary's grade school and Butte Central High school before serving in the United States Army during World War Two. During his Army career he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Kevin worked on the Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway Company for twenty years. He went to work for the New York Life Insurance Company as an agent in the early 1960s. Kevin has been a member of the Million Dollar Round Table for forty five years and is a member of the New York Life Hall of Fame for outstanding agents. He is the recipient of the Montana State Governors Award for the Arts for his contributions to Folklore, a Rotary Award for outstanding Citizens in Butte Montana. Kevin has served both the School District No. 1 Board of Trustees and the Butte Catholic Schools Board of Directors. He was awarded a honorary degree from Montana Tech in the1970s and currently serves as the Chairman of Montana Tech scholarship fund for Butte Students. Kevin is married to Joan Redman and they have five children.
