Leneave, Irene

Irene Leneave describes life in the Land Between the Lakes region of Kentucky, particularly the community of Golden Pond. She discusses her childhood in the Devil's Elbow, where her father managed a steamboat landing. She recalls her father's job as postmaster and the store she and her husband operated at Golden Pond. She reflects upon the Tennessee Valley Authority purchase of the Land Between the Lakes and the effects it had upon the populace of the region. She also mentions some activities of the Night Riders, the 1936 fire at Golden Pond and how local merchants received all their goods by steamboat.
