Colcock, John, 1744-1782.
Attorney and South Carolina state representative. As the attorney for Isaac Hayne, an American officer, Colcock wrote an opinion which questioned the legality of British actions against Hayne. Hayne was sentenced to be executed without a proper trial in Charleston, South Carolina by orders of Colonel Nisbet Balfour and Lord Rawdon. Despite petitions for his pardon, Hayne was hanged by the British.
