Jones, Malcolm L., Mrs,

Charles Edwin Wolverton (1851-1926) came by wagon train to Oregon with his family in 1853 and grew up on a homestead in Polk County. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Monmouth College in 1872 and his law degree at Kentucky University (Lexington) in 1874. Wolverton passed the Oregon bar that year and practiced for many years at Albany. He was active in Republican party politics and ran successfully for the Oregon Supreme Court in 1894, serving as Justice and Chief Justice until 1905. That year, he was appointed United States District Judge for Oregon and remained in that post until his death. In 1924, he was invited to a conference of prominent lawyers and jurists in London and took the opportunity to make a European tour with his wife. Clara E. Price (1858-1931), a native of Albany, Or., and 1878 graduate of Albany College, married Charles E. Wolverton in 1878. She was active in civic affairs. The Wolvertons had no children, but their niece, Edna Price, lived with them. She married Rev. S.H. Jones.
