University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. General Faculty.
Formal faculty meetings at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are of two kinds: General Faculty meetings and Faculty Council meetings. The General Faculty consists of faculty members holding the rank of lecturer and above, some librarians, and certain administrators. Its chief responsibility is to establish policies governing the educational activities and the award of academic degrees by the university. The Faculty Council, established in 1951, is the legislative body of the General Faculty. It is composed of elected members from various divisions of the university and ex-officio members from the administrative staff.
