Canfield, George L. (George Lewis), 1866-
George Lewis Canfield was born in Detroit in 1864, attending public schools in the city. After graduating in 1888 from University of Michigan Law School, Mr. Canfield went into law practice with his father, Frank H. Canfield, a prominent admiralty lawyer, in the firm of Moore and Canfield. He and his father were associated in the firm of F.H. and G.L. Canfield from 1892 to 1914, when the firm of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Perry was formed. In 1910, George Canfield was a lecturer on admiralty law int eh Law School of the University of Michigan. He was the author of two books, "The Law of the Sea" and "Admiralty", and wrote essays on "The Roman Lawyer", "Essays on Horace", "St. Paul in Rome" and "Lake Steamship Bonds".
