Burnett, Robert Adair.

Born in 1934 in Spartanburg South Carolina, Robert Burnett received his Ph D. in History from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1968. After serving as Professor of History, Chairman of the History Department and University Ombudsman at University of Louisville from 1968-1978, Dr. Burnett joined the faculty of Armstrong State College in 1978 as Professor of History and Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. On April 19th, 1985 Dr. Burnett was inaugurated as the fifth President of Armstrong State College. Issues confronted during Dr. Burnett's tenure at Armstrong include: desegregation, merger with Savannah State College, censure by the American Association of University Professors, creation of a regional university for Southeast Georgia and the expansion from college to university.
