Willson, James McCrorry, 1887-1972
Lumberman, civic leader, philanthropist, World War I veteran. Born 1887 in Wise County, Texas. Graduated from Bridgeport High School and Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Moved to Floydada, Texas in 1916 and started a lumber business. Served in France in 1920 with a special U.S. fighting unit of the 90th Infantry. In addition to his business interests, Willson had many educational and civic interests. He and his family established 21 religious lectureships at various colleges and universities in Texas, Louisiana, Kansas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Civic activities included the American Legion, the Masons and the Knights of the Templar. Served on the Floydada city council and was president of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce in 1949. Was also active in the Methodist Church. Died in 1972.
