Termin, Albert C.

Albert "Budd" Termin, II, was the head coach for the University at Buffalo (UB) Men's Swimming and Diving Team from 1987-2007. During this time Termin helped moved UB from a division III university to division I, with a 122-90 dual meet record and seven (7) conference championship titles. Termin's teams were frequently noted for the academic standing, winning the National Collegiate Athletic Association's All-Academic-Team Award several times. While coaching, Termin also conducted physiological research with Physiology Department member David Pendergast. Termin and Pendergast investigated oxygen consumption (metabolism), swimmer training, and swim suit drag using the donut-shaped water tank in the Center for Research in Special Environments. Together they obtained a patent for their training method, System and Method for Training a Swimmer, and licensed a swimsuit design to TYR, sports equipment manufacturer. Termin and Pendergast's swimsuit was used in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens by medal-placing swimmers. Termin obtained a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Clarion University (1979) and a master's degree in sports administration from the University of Kansas (1987). While a graduate student, Termin was the academic coordinator of the Kansas University swim team. From 1980-1985, Termin coached the West Shore YMCA Barracudas in his hometown of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
