Sturges Family

The Sturges family emigrated from England to Fairfield, Connecticut in the 1600's. William and Benjamin Sturges owned a store as a partnership which was dissolved in November 1798. William married Mary Osborn. In 1815, Joseph Sturges built a distillery at Farwell's Mills, NY (later Clarendon, NY) which he carried on with his brother, David, eight or ten years. After Joseph Sturges died in March, 1828, David Sturges began to sell dry goods and groceries. He died in September, 1848.
