Amber, Julius
Julius Amber (1907-1979) was born in Sokoly, Poland and came to Cleveland, Ohio, with his family in 1920. He graduated from Western Reserve University and its law school and, by 1935, had been appointed secretary to Ohio Supreme Court Justice Roy H. Williams. He served in this capacity until 1942 when he went into private practice with Sam Horwitz. Amber was a leader in the Cleveland Jewish and Zionist communities. He served for thirteen years as secretary of the Jewish National Fund council of Cleveland, serving as president of that organization from 1955-1979. In 1967, Amber was elected honorary national chairman of the Jewish National Fund of the United States. He was also a board member of Cleveland Hebrew Schools, the Bureau of Jewish Education, the Zionist District, and Park Synagogue.
