Shorts, R. Perry.

Shorts (Dec. 30, 1879-Aug. 12, 1975) was the son of Robert and Eliza Jane (Armstrong) Shorts. He had three siblings: Bruce C., W. Warren, and Mrs. Hannah M. Shorts Vowles, for whom Vowles Elementary School was named. Shorts graduated from Central Michigan University (CMU) (1900) and the Univ. of Michigan's (UM) Law Dept. (1906). A noted writer and speaker, Shorts had a long and successful business career, mainly in insurance and banking. He was Pres. of the Second National Bank of Saginaw, the International Health and Accident Insurance Co., and the Saginaw Board of Commerce, and served as Director or Executive Officer of Mich. Bell Telephone Co., Mich. Sugar Co., National Bank of Detroit, which he helped organize, and Saginaw Community Chest, among others. Shorts also served as a UM Regent. He received numerous awards. In 1959 Shorts donated Camp Rotary to the Valley Trails Council of the Boy Scouts. He began a scholarship fund at CMU. The football stadium at CMU was named in his honor in 1972. He married Helen H. Houseman in 1907 and together they had two children: Robert L. (d. by 1936) and Susan.
