All entries in these volumes may have been posted in journals of the Treasury Department because pencil lines are drawn across many pages. A notation in the rear of one volume reads, "Treasury Department Georgia Milledgeville 6th Septr. 1837 All of the Grant entries in this book are posted in the journals up to this date./S/ Chas. E. H. Haynes."

There is some indication that at least one of these volumes was a part of the records of the comptroller general, 1842.
