Weir, Marion C.
Weir was an instructor and later assistant professor in the Dept. of Rhetoric at the University of Michigan (UM), 1917-1924, an instructor of violoncello at UM School of Music, 1922, and a professor in the Dept. of English at Brown University in Providence (R.I.), 1919-1929. He was a poet, friend, and probably a cello instructor of Oppermann's. Kurt Peters Oppermann was the second son of Gustav and Antoinette Oppermann, who owned and operated the Oppermann Fur Company of Saginaw (Mich.). While a student at UM, he enlisted in the U.S. Infantry as a corporal in Company 1, First Battalion, 160th Depot Brigade at Camp Custer in Nov. 1918. After the war he worked for the family business.
