Ian Forbes Meiklejohn

Ian Forbes Meiklejohn was born in 1907. He was educated at Wellington College and Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. In 1927 he was commissioned in the Royal Corps of Signals, advancing to the rank of lieutenant. He was seconded to the British Graham Land Expedition, 1934-1937 (leader John Rymill), as wireless officer in addition to operating the camera during aerial surveys. After the expedition, he served in various staff appointments, and during the Second World War was commanding officer of a signal regiment and later of a training regiment. After a year with Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) as head of Communications Security Section, he was appointed chief staff officer of Singapore Base District. Retiring from the army with the rank of colonel in 1955, he died on 26 December 1977.
