Richard Johnson was a United States (U.S.) Army soldier. He was a private and corporal in the 48th U.S. Volunteer Infantry Regiment; private, 25th U.S. Infantry Regiment; private, Hospital Corps (serving at Fort Bayard, Angel Island, and various posts in the Philippine Department); sergeant, Medical Corps (serving with the 9th U.S. Cavalry Regiment in Arizona, the Philippine Department, and with the 24th U.S. Infantry Regiment in New Mexico); civilian employee, Quartermaster Department, U.S. Army Forces-Far East; and an internee, Santo Tomas Prisoner of War Camp.
