Attorney and public official, of South Carolina; graduate, 1828, of South Carolina College; Justice of the Peace and Commissioner in Equity, Abbeville District, S.C.; moved to York District (now Cherokee County), S.C., 1844; Comptroller General of South Carolina, 1846-1850; represented York District in S.C. House of Representatives 1842-1845 and 1856-1861; magistrate, 1866-1867; investor in King's Mountain Iron Company and superintendent, 1864.
