Minnesota Nurses Association

The Minnesota Nurses Association (originally known as the Minnesota State Graduate Nurses Association and from 1919 to 1934 as the Minnesota State Registered Nurses Association) was organized in 1905. Its objectives were "to promote the professional and educational advancement of nurses, to maintain a code of ethics among nurses, and to establish professional reciprocity between the nurses of Minnesota and those of other states and countries." Before the creation of a statewide association, nurses registered with the schools where they were trained, each maintaining its own standards of care. The new organization was designed to strengthen the profession by bringing together nurses from across the state and establishing uniform standards in education and training. Throughout its existence, the association has also supported efforts to improve the salaries and working conditions of nurses across the state.

The association became a member of the United Alumnae of the United States (later the American Nurses Association) in 1907.
