Taylor, Edgar, 1793-1839

Edgar Taylor was an English solicitor, translator, editor, and writer. Fluent in Italian, Spanish, German, and French, he took time from his prosperous law practice to publish an anonymous translation of the German tales of the Brothers Grimm. Later a victim of a lingering disease, he turned to literature for solace; many of the works he prepared during this time were published posthumously. He also wrote extensively for legal journals.

From the description of Edgar Taylor letter to F. Palgrave, 1823 Nov. 20. (Pennsylvania State University Libraries). WorldCat record id: 56342117
