J.C. Hersey Collection.

J.C. Hersey was manager of the University Laundry Services from 1936-1940, and from 1945 until his retirement in 1980. He served as University beadle and carried the mace for the first University convocation in 1965. Joe Hersey was one of the founding fathers of the Canadian Laundry & Linen Institute in 1957, and held the position of Education Director from 1979-1982. He made a very special contribution to institutional laundries generally by establishing an in-service short course for colleges and after 1964 with the University. The course was very well established and drew students not only from Canada but from the U.S. and the Caribbean. After retirement, Joe Hersey was still involved with the course. He died on March 1, 2008.
