Born in Tempe, Arizona, Harry Mitchell has remained in his home town. He received his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University in political science in 1962, and his master's degree in public administration in 1980. He currently teaches government and economics at Tempe High School. Elected to Tempe City Council in 1970, he has been Mayor of Tempe for ten years.
