University of Minnesota. Faculty Advisory Committee on Women

Dr. Shyamala Rajender, a chemistry professor at the University of Minnesota, filed a sexual descrimination suit against the University in 1973. By 1975, it had evolved into a class action suit with many other women professors joining in. The settlement with the University in 1980 caused the formation of the Rajender Consent Decree. It mandated a set of guidelines for the future hiring and treatment of women at the University of Minnesota and established a set of procedures for all of the University women involved in the class action suit. The Faculty Advisory Committee on Women was formed to provide a support network, serve as an information source and advise claimants and potential claimants of their rights under the ruling of the Rajender Consent Decree.
