Lambert, George, 1873-1930

Artist. Born at St Petersburg (Leningrad) fourth child of George Washington and Annie Matilda Lambert (nee Firth). Won 1899 Wynne prize for "Across the Black Soil Plains". In 1900 he won a travelling art scholarship. From 1917 to 1920 he held an appointment as an official war artist, A.I.F., which resulted in a a series of sketches and large pictures of battles. In his last years he became interested in sculpture, undertaking several commissions.
