Warner, William W. 1836-1863.
William W. Warner (Clermont, Iowa) was Captain of the 12th Iowa Volunteer Infantry, Company C, from October 1861 through December 1863. Warner--an Ohio native--was a top scholar in his senior year at Upper Iowa University when he enlisted. Along with David B. Henderson, he recruited and organized the 12th Infantry regiment. He was taken prisoner at Shiloh on April 6, 1862 and paroled on October 13th of that year. He was wounded at Vicksburg on May 19, 1863 and eventually died of his wounds on December 12, 1863. He was interred at God's Acres Cemetery at Clermont, Iowa.
