Crenshaw, Edward, 1842-1911.

Edward Crenshaw was born 1842 Aug. 29 in Butler Co., Ala. He was a son of Judge Walter Henry and Sarah Anderson (Crenshaw). He graduated from the University of Alabama, and from the law school of the University of Virginia, 1861. He entered the C.S. Army that year, enlisting as Second Lieutenant of Co. K, Seventeenth Alabama Volunteer Infantry, and served with that command until 1863 Mar., when he was promoted to Captain of Co. B, Fifty-Eight Alabama Infantry Regiment.

In 1864 May, he was appointed Second Lieutenant of the Confederate Marines Corps, and subsequently became first Lieutenant of the Marines on the Confederate privateer, "Tallahassee", which captured about forty Union vessels during the war. After the war, he opened a law office in Greenville, Ala. In 1869, he was elected clerk of the circuit court for Butler Co., Ala. and held that office for five years. He served as county solicitor, 1879-1883, and later as city attorney of Greenville, Ala.
