White, John W. (John William), 1910-1992

John William White (b. 1910, Uvalde, Tex.-d. Nov. 16, 1992), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from West Point in 1934 and earned his pilot wings the following year. During World War II he helped establish and operate five Bombardier schools, serving as commanding officer at two of them. After the War he served on the staff of the U. S. Air Forces in Europe, and later assumed command of the Iceland Defense Force. In the late 1950s he served as deputy chief, Defense Atomic Support Agency, and in the early 1960s was assistant for special weapons and commander, 3079th Aviation Depot Wing in the Air Force Logistics Command. General White followed this assignment by serving as commander, Air Force Special Weapons Center. He retired in 1966.
