Tyson, Ian

British painter, printmaker, and book artist born in Wallasey, Cheshire, United Kingdom, in 1933 and educated at the Birkenhead School of Art and Royal Academy Schools. Tyson taught at the Camberwell School of Art and Craft and at the Farmham School of Art (1959-1966). He has been a visiting professor at the Royal College of Art (1984), University of Wisconsin at Madison (1969), and the University of California, San Diego (1992). In 1970, he founded his own press in London, Tetrad Press, where he worked with contemporary artists and poets including Jackson Mac Low, Tom Phillips, Roy Fisher, and Larry Eigner. Tyson has had over thirty-two solo and forty-four group exhibitions throughout Europe and North America.
