Workers' Defense League

In 1936, Norman Thomas proposed the formation of a national labor and socialist defense committee to coordinate the defense of striking unionists, sharecroppers and other workers caught up in the labor crisis of the Great Depression. An earlier (1918) organization, called the Workers Defense Union, was not related to it, though their goals were similar.
