Emil Jones, Jr. was born in Chicago on October 18, 1935. He received an A.A. degree from Chicago City Loop College and attended Roosevelt University's School of Commerce. He served as Assistant Minority Leader in the House from 1981 to 1982. Former employment included U.S. postal worker, licensed stationary engineer, chlorine engineer at the South District Water Filtration Plant, and a secretary to the aldermen from 1967 to January 1973. Jones married the former Patricia A. Sterling with whom he had four children.
