Glasgow University Hares and Hounds (cross country running club : 1921- : University of Glasgow, Scotland)

The Glasgow University Athletics Club (GUAC) was founded in 1881 but it was not until the beginning of the 1921-1922 season that the formation of a Hares and Hounds section was authorised. The Hares and Hounds club was formed following a request from the Edinburgh University Hares and Hounds for a fixture in the 1922-1923 season against a team from Glasgow University.

The Hares and Hounds was formed to promote cross-country running during the winter. Membership was open to matriculated students and staff who were members of the GUAC and who paid an annual subscription. The Hares and Hounds compete in events all over Scotland and the UK, although the club was suspended during 1941-1943 because of World War II. As well as attending numerous race meetings and holding social events for its members, the club took cross-country running seriously with annual training camps held in various locations. Many members of the club went on to represent Scotland at international level. The Hares and Hounds continue to exist as part of the Glasgow University Sports Association.
