Mulligan, Kathleen, 1889-1971.

Biographical note: Kathleen Mulligan was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and a municipal judge in Lexington (1928-1929), the first woman in Kentucky to serve in that position. She was the daughter of James H. Mulligan and Genevieve Morgan Williams Mulligan. Her father, a poet, was also a judge and served as Consul-General to Samoa under President Grover Cleveland, where he befriended author Robert Louis Stevenson. Her mother was a cousin of Civil War general John Hunt Morgan and President John Tyler. The Mulligan family estate in Lexington was sold to the University of Kentucky and the home, Maxwell Place, now serves as the university president's residence.
