Wood, John, 1947 January 2-
Dr. John A. Wood was born on January 2, 1947. He received his bachelor's degree from Arkansas State University and his Master of Fine Arts and Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas. At McNeese, Wood held two professorships: Professor of English (in the Languages Department) and Professor of Photographic History (in the Visual Arts Department). Wood is the author of many books on photography, including: The Scenic Daguerreotype: Romanticism and Early Photography; The Art of the Autochrome: the Birth of Color Photography; America and the Daguerreotype; and Secrets of the Dark Chamber: the Art of the American Daguerreotype. Wood served as Director of McNeese's MFA Program in Creative Writing and Director of Graduate Studies in English from 1980 to his retirement in 2006. To date, Wood has published 25 books, nine catalogues, five essays and articles, and numerous poems published in more than a dozen different works.
