Polk, James H. (James Hilliard), 1911-1992
James Hilliard Polk (b. Dec. 13, 1911, Camp McGraw, Philippines-d. Feb. 18, 1992, El Paso, Tex.), U.S. Army general, graduated from West Point in 1933. He served as an armored commander in Europe during World War II. He was the U.S. Commandant in Berlin in 1963 and 1964, and beginning in 1967 served as commander, 7th Army, in Germany, and U.S. Forces in Europe from HQ in West Germany until his retirement in 1971.
