Goodale, George L. (George Lincoln), 1839-1923
George Lincoln Goodale (1839-1923) earned an AB at Amherst College in 1860 and MD degrees from both Bowdoin and Harvard in 1863; he taught science in various fields at Bowdoin, 1868-1878. He came to Harvard in 1878 as a professor of Botany and became the first Director of the Botanical Museum in 1879. He was appointed Fisher Professor of Natural History in 1888 and retired in 1909, becoming Honorary Curator of the Botanical Museum until his death in 1923.
