Jones family.
Quaker ministers. Eli Jones (1807-1890) of China, Me., m. 1833 Sybil Jones (1808-1873). In 1851 they began religious work in Liberia, later traveling in Great Britain, France, Norway, Germany and Switzerland. During the Civil War, their son James Parnell Jones was killed, and Sybil worked to minister the wounded in Washington. In 1867 they went to the Middle East, working in Palestine and Syria. They began a girls school at Rām Allāh, Jordan.
