Whilden, Charles Edmonston, 1824-1866
Charles E. Whilden worked for the Commissary Department of the U.S. Army in Indian Territories. During the Civil War he was a Confederate soldier in the 1st South Carolina Volunteer Regiment, one of the regiments which made up Gregg's Brigade (later known as McGowan's Brigade). During a battle in Virginia he was wounded while bearing the flag of his regiment. His brother, William G. Whilden, was a merchant of Charleston, South Carolina.
