Stickney, Joseph L.
Stickney graduated the U.S. Naval Academy in 1862, and rose to the rank of lieutenant before pursuing a career as a newspaper reporter. In 1898, Stickney reported for the Chicago Tribune from the bridge of Admiral George Dewey's flagship Olympia during the Battle of Manila Bay. He continued to work as a newsman until his death on May 25, 1907 at the age of 58.
