Lang, John A., 1910-1974.
John Albert Lang, Jr. (1910-1974) was born in Carthage, N.C., the son of John A. Lang and Laura Kelly Lang, and was married to Catherine Gibson. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Lang chaired the Department of English at Georgia Military Academy and served as president of the National Student Federation of America, Assistant Director of Education Programs for the Civilian Conservation Corps, director of the N.C. National Youth Administration, assistant to Congressmen Charles Bennett Dean and Robert E. Jones, Deputy for Reserve at ROTC Affairs in the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force (OSAF), and later, the administrative assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force (SAFAA). Lang was major general in the Air Force Reserves before joining East Carolina University as Vice President for External Affairs. He was the first secretary of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
