Celeste, Richard F., 1937-

Richard F. "Dick" Celeste (b. Nov. 11, 1937, Cleveland, OH) was governor of Ohio, diplomat, and politician. He graduated from Yale University (1959) and received a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Exeter College, Oxford University. After, he served as staff liaison in Peace Corps as assistant to Chester Bowles. He was elected to Ohio House of Representatives (1970) and later Lieutenant Governor of Ohio (1974). Celeste was appointed director of Peace Corps by Pres. Jimmy Carter (1979-1981). Later, he served as governor of Ohio (1983-1991). Under Pres. Clinton, he was Ambassador to India (1997-2001). He was the President of Colorado College (2002-2011). Celeste is a member of advisory board of Roosevelt Institution and of Council of Foreign Relations.
