Cathcart, Wallace Hugh, 1865-

Prominent Cleveland, Ohio bibliophile associated with the Western Reserve Historical Society as president (1907-13) and director (1913-42), acquiring many of that organization's finest manuscript collections. Cathcart was also vice-president and general manager of Burrows Bros., a prosperous Cleveland book dealer, and was one of the founders, and later vice-president, of the American Booksellers & Publishers Association. Cathcart was a member of the executive committee of the Cuyahoga County Centennial Celebration, chaired by William H. Hunt and held in 1910. The week-long centennial included various dedications, street pageants, a water carnival and an aeroplane meet. During the celebration, the $3 million Cuyahoga County Courthouse and a new post office were dedicated. The Historical Commission of Ohio was created in 1918 to collect and preserve materials pertaining to Ohio's role in World War I.
