Bruce family.
James Coles Bruce was the son of James Bruce (1763-1837) and his first wife Sally (Coles) Bruce (1770-1806). James C. Bruce married Elizabeth Douglas "Eliza" Wilkins (1809-1850) and had with her eight children, including Alexander Bruce. Alexander Bruce married Mary Evelyn Anderson (1835-1916), daughter of Francis T. Anderson of Lexington, Va. Alexander and "Mary E." had six children, four of whom lived to adulthood, including Walter Coles Bruce, Malcolm Graeme Bruce, and Ellen Douglas (Bruce) Crane. Walter never married; Malcolm married first Myrtle Celia Heisen (1885-1916), daughter of financier and real estate developer Charles C. Heisen of Chicago, Ill., and second his cousin Betty "Bruce" Williams (1878-1943). Ellen married Richard Teller Crane II (1882-1938) of Chicago, who served as the first U.S. Minister to Czechoslovakia.
