Hayes, Walter J. (Walter James), 1914-
Was a U.S. Army commissioned warrant officer (1944) in 185th CA Battalion stationed at Portland, Me.; assigned to U.S. Army Forces, Western Pacific (1945). Was CWO in 703rd AAA Gun Battalion stationed in Portland Me., and Fort Hancock, N.J. (1948-51) and sent to Korea as part of X Corps (1952-53). Was Assistant Chief, Enlisted Personnel Branch, AG Section at U.S. Army Signal Garrison, Fort Monmouth, N.J. (1954-57); transferred to U.S. garrison at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico (1957-60); stationed at Fort Holabird, Md. as part of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center (1960-63). Became admin. officer in the Office of the Secretary of the Joint Staff UNC/USFK in Korea (1964-65) and saw duty at NATO Headquarters of the Supreme Commander, Atlantic, Norfolk, Va. (1965-66).
