Florida. Constitution Advisory Commission

The Florida Constitutional Advisory Commission was established in 1955 by Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 555. The Commission was charged with the duty of submitting to the Governor and to the Legislature recommendations for revision of the state constitution. The Commission represents the first attempt at amending dated provisions of the 1885 Constitution. The Commission was composed of thirty-seven members. Supreme Court Justice Wallace E. Sturgis chaired the Commission. In 1957, the findings of the Commission were reported to the legislature for final disposition. The legislature presented a draft of the proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot of the 1958 general election.
