Montpelier Salt Mining Company (Vt.)

The Montpelier Salt Mining Company was formed to discover whether a salt spring existed in Montpelier, Vermont. The company gathered capital so that an artesian well might be dug on the bank of the Winooski River, near the Main Street Bridge. The well was dug to the depth of approximately 900 feet when the project was abandoned due to lack of capital.
