Coon, Warren Patten, 1879-.

Warren Patten Coon (1879-1951) was a Methodist minister and a trustee of the Genealogical Society of New Jersey. Early in his career, Coon led several large congregations in the Newark, New Jersey and later served as a chaplain in the United States Army during World War I. He made an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 1922, running as the Republican candidate from New Jersey's 8th District. In his later years he was the pastor of the First Methodist Church in West Orange, N.J. As a member of both the Sons of the American Revolution and the Genealogical Society of New Jersey, Coon pursued the Coon family ancestry, conducted extensive research on families from New Jersey's Sussex and Warren Counties, transcribed grave markers, and wrote and lectured. Coon died Sept. 7, 1951 at the age of 72 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
