Pennsylvania State University. Office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar was established in 1949 to manage admissions, student registration and record keeping, and class scheduling, and functions were administratively distributed as enrollments grew. It was initially headed by William S. Hoffman until 1950, followed by Royal M. Gerhardt (1950-1951); deans of admissions and registrars, C. O. Williams (1952-1958) and Robert G. Bernreuter (1959-1965). Sherman Stanford was Director of Admissions and Registrar (1966-1967). That position was replaced in 1968 by the Division of Admissions, Records, and Scheduling which analyzed applications, kept student records, and scheduled classes. These functions were administered under deans of admission and registrars, Warren B. Haffner (1979-1991), J. James Wager (1991-2006), and Karen Schultz (2006- present).
