Groot, Pieter, 1926-

Born in Haarlem, Netherlands, in 1926, Pieter Groot was the son of Pieter and Anna Maria (Korzelius) Groot. Following the end of World War II, Groot served in the military in the Netherlands and Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia, before joining the Royal Dutch Air Force in 1951. While training with the Air Force in the United States, Groot married Diana in 1953, and the couple had four sons: Roy, Richard, Paul, and John. Upon leaving the Air Force, Groot and his wife immigrated permanently to Bryan, Texas, where he took a job in Texas A & M University’s Department of Oceanography and Meteorology in 1956. He later worked for the Dean of Geosciences and as Special Assistant to the Vice President.
